What is a code list?

If your randomisation system is blinded, a code list will be used to link randomisation (kit) codes to treatments. This list is also known as a kit or medication list.

When a participant is randomised, one or more kit codes are assigned from this list. Only people who have access to the list know what treatment these codes are linked to. Normally the only people who have access to the list are:
  • Sealed Envelope
  • Trial pharmacies or drug packaging company
  • Independent statistician to the data monitoring committee
